How to catch Bass in early spring

How to Catch Bass in Early Spring Shallow Cover

I love fishing early spring for the chance at a big one. Here I am fishing a pre spawn where the water is in the high 50's and the bass are feeding in shallow water on a windy day. To target these bass I am fishing a chatter bait and lipless crankbait to pull through shallow vegetation and get a reaction strike from the bass. They crush this chatter bait with a smimbait trailer! You can find my favorite trailers (the Live Magic Shad) @ www.lftlures.com

Rent A Giant Cruise Ship

Renting Giant Cruise Ships Is the New Wave in Private Yachting

Floating amid mega-yachts in Monte Carlo’s crowded harbor during the May 2015 Monaco Grand Prix was a startling sight: Windstar’s 212-passenger Star Breeze cruise liner. Lodged in one of the prime berths, the passenger ship was placed as a private yacht would be—because for the week, it was one.

“The ship is within inches of not being able to come into the harbor, but it fits exactly, down by the hairpin turn,” explained Windstar’s Amy Conover via phone from her office in Seattle. The 440-foot long Star Breeze wasn’t crammed with day-trippers midway through a jaunt around the Mediterranean, for which it was designed. The ship was serving  as a private playground, rented by a wealthy client for use as a convenient perch for 200 friends while the ship’s crew catered to their needs. Guests could sleep and party aboard it during the week of Monaco's famed car races, enjoying the comforts of the waitstaff and kitchen crew amid watertight security. The mogul renter even provided the most luxurious of day trips: Each of his lucky friends was offered a vintage automobile from the likes of Mercedes and Ferrari, including some retired Grand Prix race cars. Guests drove the race course on Saturday evening during the moments before it was shuttered to make way for Sunday’s grand finale.

Fishing for snapper in florida

Southwest Florida Fishing Report: Time to snap up snapper

What a difference a week makes. While the conditions are not perfect, Mother Nature has allowed for some outstanding angling adventures out in the Gulf in the offshore arena. Fishable seas, coupled with turbid water, have facilitated what many local skippers are calling the best snapper fishing in many seasons.

Hard-bottom areas, ledges and artificial reefs are top targeting points for Gulf snapper. Savvy in nature as the species becomes hook and leader shy in clear water, the churned-up Gulf truly has them snapping up a variety of offerings. Live shrimp, squid and herring are the snapper baits of choice here in Southwest Florida.

Best Caribbean Islands for Sailing Yachting Boating

The 11 Best Caribbean Islands for Sailing, Yachting and Boating

We have often said, to really understand an island you must go out in a boat and look back. Boating and Islands just go together — to really see a place and know a place you must get away from it. It gives perspective to size, topography and foliage, and when you go to land, you really explore what makes an island tick. Just ask any pirate.

The best part of any island are the hidden beaches, protected coves, tiny villages and little beach bars often unreachable other than by boat. There are countless special places only boaters know about and only boaters can get to, whether on a yacht, a sailboat or a pleasure boat. These are the best Caribbean islands for boating.

New boating inspection rules

New boating inspection rules take effect Friday

Trying to keep certain types of mussels out of New Mexico

By

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —New Mexico Game and Fish is rolling out several new boating inspection rules aimed at keeping pests out of New Mexico lakes. They said certain types of mussels from out of state can cause big problems.

Starting Friday, New Mexico Game and Fish will check all boats coming in from out of state for zebra and quagga mussels. They said the smelly mussels are the size of a fingernail, are really sharp and can leave you with some nasty cuts.

On top of that, they are a nuisance for boaters and other equipment.

“They can choke out native species of mussels or other species of life in the water but the biggest impacts are to the infrastructures. They clog damns and irrigation pipes. So everybody that is relying on the water transfer is going to have to deal with these things,” said James Dominguez with New Mexico Game and Fish.

Sailor goes ice boating

At 97, sailor goes ice boating on Michigan’s Wolf Lake

Ryan Shek, Jackson Citizen Patriot 3:19 p.m. EST February 9, 2016

Grass Lake — For decades, Mel Nichols traveled across the country to sail competitively.
From frozen lakes in Michigan and Minnesota, to bodies of water in Tennessee and near Tampa Bay — he filled a shelf with trophies and was once a nationally ranked competitor.

Heading into his 80s, however, Nichols retired — though at 97, he has never stopped thinking like a sailor.

“You never get it out of your blood,” he added.
On Jan. 30, Nichols again got the chance to ice boat Wolf Lake with his son-in-law Bruce Brown.

Reaching speeds of up to 40 mph, the two drew a small crowd of neighbors who gathered in the unseasonably warm January weather to watch the pair skid across the ice.

Campground Review Orlando Thousand Trails

Campground Review - Orlando Thousand Trails

Published on Feb 6, 2016
We spent two weeks at the Orlando thousand trails RV park in January 2016. It is located in southwest of Orlando in Clermont Florida. ... about a 30 minute drive from Disney and 45 minutes into the city. There is a Walmart down the street and plenty of shopping amenities nearby.

The park is the largest campground we have ever been in with almost 900 sites! The sites were large and easy to access even with a large fifth wheel or class A Motorhome. Most of the campground is located in open areas with sparse trees, however one section is forested where you have trees between sites. All of the roads are paved and many of the sites offer paved parking or a cement slab.

Most of the sites were 30 amp full hookup, with some 50 amp available. One of there newest selections was all 50 amp but cost an additional 3 dollars per night to stay there. There are a few cabins available to rent onsite and small upscale trailer homes with full time residents.

Open water fishing

Open water fishing can still be excellent

Dick Martin, Columnist 1:04 p.m. EST February 7, 2016

It may be the dead of winter, but that doesn't mean there's no longer open water fishing to be had, and some of that fishing can be excellent.

Lake Erie steelhead streams are iffy sometimes because with occasional long spells of bitter weather they're likely to be frozen half (or clear) over sometimes, and trout streams like the Clear Fork likely have the same problem. But fishing below the lake dams for saugeye will soon be humming along, and an anglers chances of filling a stringer are good if he or she knows what they're doing.

When will it start? As soon as we have a few good rains or some serious snow melt that will fill our lakes and reservoirs enough to require releasing water.

walleye fishing in Missouri

Area anglers prepare for walleye fishing in early March

Francis Skalicky, for the News-Leader 11:22 a.m. CST February 3, 2016

The March 1 trout park opener may be the first fishing event of the year that grabs media attention, but as winter fades into spring, many area anglers are focused on another popular sportfish.

For many Ozarks fishing folks, early March is time to get excited about walleye fishing. This popular member of the perch family, which many anglers say is the finest eating of freshwater gamefish, begins to spawn in early March. This spawning period, which usually runs into April, sends many anglers to local lakes in search of this prized catch.

People can learn more about walleye at the free Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) program “Walleye Fishing” on Feb. 10 at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center. The program will be 7-8:30 p.m.

Alabama's public fishing lakes

Alabama's public fishing lakes.

By Frank Sargeant, The Huntsville Times AL.com
on February 03, 2016 at 1:30 PM, updated February 03, 2016 at 1:31 PM

Well-stocked state lakes give kids and amateur anglers an
excellent chance of success on small waters, often close to home

There's no question that fishing on private lakes is often better than the action available on big public lakes like those in the TVA chain.

The fish in many of these lakes don't see many lures compared to the constant pounding they get in a hard-fished lake like Guntersville or Pickwick, and that makes them a whole lot easier to catch.

In late winter, small lakes also have the advantage of warming up considerably faster than the bigger waters if the sun cooperates, and that turns on the pre-spawn action weeks ahead of time.

Elementary students hooked on fishing

Hooked on Fishing: Broadwater Elementary students learn on the lake.

Broadwater Elementary student Miles Hardin
gives his first perch a kiss Wednesday morning out on the Helena Valley Regulation Reservoir for the hands-on portion of the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Hooked on Fishing program.

As the first perch rose from the ice hole and flopped in the snow, a 50-voice chorus rang out across the Helena Valley Regulating Reservoir.

“Kiss it, kiss it, kiss it!”

And with schools of ravenous perch eager to bite the swarm of lures dancing beneath the surface, plenty of Broadwater Elementary fourth and fifth graders had the opportunity to pucker up at the urging of their classmates.

The day was part of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks’ Hooked on Fishing program, which uses fish and fishing as part of a larger curriculum for students across the state. On Wednesday, Broadwater students had their chance to learn on a frozen classroom, gaining some firsthand knowledge of the reservoir’s fish population as well as some specimens for future dissection.

using fishing poles to steal mail

Thieves are using fishing poles to try and steal mail out of mailboxes.

THE BRONX (PIX11) -- They were fishing for stolen mail, but they ended being the ones who got caught — by cops.

Three suspects were arrested last week after officers observed them hanging around mailboxes on a number of corners in the Bronx early in the morning.

NYPD released a picture of the "fishing poles" they were using to try to snag mail — and whatever money and valuable information might be in it.

In the Bedford Park and Norwood sections of the Bronx, neighbors have been advised that suspects are taking water bottles, tying a string around them, and covering them with sticky glue or fly paper to fish envelopes from mailboxes.
